WTN: A CA SauvBlanc & Nero d'Avola....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Jan 03, 2024 2:47 pm

Tried these two wines last night:
1. Cadre SauvBlanc StoneBlossom SLOCoast/EdnaVlly (14.2%; http://www.CadreWines.com) ArroyoGrande/SLOCnty 2022: Med.light gold color; strong ripe/herbal/SB/some melony some mineral/stony/chalky light pencilly/oak quite attractive nose; quite tart/tangy fairly chalky/mineral/stony slight metallic bit dissolved CO2 some melony/ripe/SB/bit herbal slightly rich/lush very slight pencilly/oak bit complex flavor; very long finish mirrors the flavor; quite an attractive terroir-driven SB w/ nice balance of SB fruit & minerality; reminds some of the old Talley SB's but less oak & not as rich/ripe; a very good resemblance to a Graves white; very fairly priced at $25.00 (SFW&S)

2. MarthaStouman Nero d'Avola MendoCnty (12.4%) V&B by MarthaStouman/Napa 2016: Dark color w/ some bricking;slight volatile rather rustic/grapey slight toasty/oak bit coarse/Mendo tomatoey fairly earthy/loamy fairly intense nose; bit soft fairly strong coarse/grapey/earthy/loamy/MendoCnty tomatoey rather rustic/Italiante some interesting flavor w/ modest coarse/earthy tannins; med.long earthy/loamy grapey/Mendo tomatoey finish w/ modest rough/coarse tannins; a somewhat interesting rather rough/coarse/rustic red that speaks more of UkiahVlly than Nero.

More cipplebork from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Cadre: This is the wnry of John Niven & his wife. His grandfather was Jack Niven, who pioneered the wine industry in the EdnaVlly in the early '70's with the planting of the ParagonVnyd. This was a new wine that showed up recently in NM so thought I'd give it a try. Went back & ordered a 6-pack of all their current releases.

2. Nero: These grapes came from, I believe, John Chiarito in the UkiahVlly/Talmadge. He was the first to produce Nero d'Avola & Negramaro. Martha Stouman is a natural winemaker in Sebastapol. The wine showed no unclean or natty character, was just a coarse/rustic red.

The SB sounds right up my alley. Not sure I've seen the winery name before.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
