WTN: Another disappointing Chevillon

by Jenise » Sun Dec 31, 2023 6:56 pm

2008 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles Pinot Noir
Similar but probably a little worse than the bottle reported by the last poster on CT (Diane Kessler, who used to post here). It was tired with acidity and tannins outpacing fruit and any interesting secondary nuances. None of the leather and old dog stuff from some other Chevy 08's I've had. Decanted one hour prior to pouring.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

You do seem to have some terrible luck.

I don't know all the history, but 08 does seem to be a tough vintage that doesn't guarantee great experiences these days.

Yea, but prematurely advanced has not been the general complaint about 2008. It’s always been about the high acid.

She did say the structure outpaced the fruit in her bottle?

Yes I did. And a reliable acquaintance on the other coast had a similar bottle.

But I have had lovely Chevillon Village '08s. Though I understand the problems with the vintage, so far my experience with Chevillon has been good. Ditto the referenced acquaintance, btw.

So we’re back to the “off bottle” or “off bottling” idea, which again seems to happen an awful lot.
