WTN: Two New Prima IlConsorzio Wines....(short/boring)

by TomHill » Thu Dec 07, 2023 2:38 pm

Tried these two new arrivals last night:
1. Brookdale MasonRoad Syrah WoO: Paarl SouthAfrica (14.5%; CultureWine/Benicia) BrookdaleFarm/KleinDrakenstein/Paarl/SouthAfrica 2022: Med.dark color; rather earthy/loamy/bit coarse some blackberry/Syrah/bit peppery light toasty/oak rather rustic nose; bit tart/metallic rather earthy/loamy/rustic/coarse some blackberry/Syrah/peppery some toasty/oak flavor w/ modest rough/coarse tannins; med.long rough/coarse finish that mimics flavor; not much high-toned/fragrant Syrah character & lots of the coarse/rustic character of SA reds but does speak quietly of Syrah; a bit too rough/coarse for my tastes. $18.00/$14.15 (PrimaIlC)
______________
2. Ciavolich Cococciola IGP: Colline Pescaresi WW (12.5%; LyraLLC/SouthSanFrancico; www.Ciavolich.com) Chiara Ciavolich/LoretoAprutino/Abruzzo 2022: Light gold bit cloudy color; lovely quite floral/gardenias light stony/chalky/perfumed talc fairly spicy/cardamon very perfumed/fragrant beautiful nose; rater tart/tangy some stony/chalky rather floral/gardenias some rich/textured lovely clean spicy flavor; very long/lingering spicy/chalky/floral/gardenias finish that mirrors flavor; a beautiful aromatic/perfumed white that reminds me a lot of a very good AltoAdige Riesling in character; a steal at $22.00/$17.60 (PrimaIlC)

More kokeiburt from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. Ciavolich: Wow....whatta amazing wine. I generally find whites from Abruzzo can be a bit on the coarse/rustic side. This was not so at all. Very perfumed/floral/aromatic white that resembled Riesling more than anything from Italy or Abruzzo.
Chiara Ciavolich is a producer I had never heard of before. She has a complete line of wines that I'm eager to track down and try.
Cococciola is a variety apparently that is indigeneous to Abruzzo. No DNA work that I could find & apparently not related to any other Italian varieties.
This was from my recent Prima IlConsorzio shipment. Another real discovery by Frank Rothstein. Occasionally he hits a real home run. This is one of those. I'm going back for more.
