WTN: A Woody

2009 Woodward Canyon Cabernet Sauvignon Old Vines Washington
Annoyingly high alcohol as pretty much every recent reviewer on CT noted. Porty. A few drops of cold water in each glass refreshed it somewhat but it was hot and there was just too much roasted coffee and black nicoise olive notes swimming around in my glass. In fact, I added chopped nicoise olives to the sauce for the steaks I was serving hoping to cancel out that flavor in the wine, which helped, but still--this isn't the wine I hoped for or expected from one of Washington's most venerable producers.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

Do you think they tried to over-extract from what was available?

It was just a hot vintage. I've nonetheless had good wines from top producers--this should have been one.
