WTN: Two NealRosenthal Italian Reds...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Nov 26, 2023 5:36 pm

The Neal Rosenthal wines returned to NM after a 5-6 yr hiatus, so tried these two this weekend:
1. GrosJean Gamay Dd'OC: Vallee d'Aoste (12.5%; NealRosenthal/NY) Grosjean Vins/Quart 2022: Med.color; strong Gamay/grapey/alpine flowers/violets/lilacs rather earthy/dusty fairly attractive nose; quite tart/tangy strong Gamay/bit grapey/alpine floral/lilacs/violets bit tangy/metallic fairly earthy/dusty flavor w/ strong tangy tannins; very long finish mirrors flavor; a bit rustic but a lovely expression of an alpine Gamay nothing like a Bojo Gamay; quite a lovely perfumed red. $28.00 (SFW&S)

2. BrunoVerdi Dd'OC: Buttafuoco Oltropo Pavese (14.5%; EB; 65% Croatina/25% Barbera/10% UvaRara) Verdo Paola/Canneto Pavese 2021: Very dark/near black color; very strong blackberry/boysenberry/ripe/plummy/bit licorice some earthy/dusty/OV spicy slight rustic/Italianate lovely fairly intense nose; bit soft very rich/lush intense blackberry/boysen berry/plummy/ripe some spicy/perfumed some dusty/OV fairly structured bit complex flavor w/ ample chewey tannins; very long ripe plummy finish mirrors the flavor; a lovely fairly intense red that resembles a Calif NorthCoast Syrah, some like a Valtelline Sfursat or Friuli Refosco Italian reds; quite a good red at a great price; can use several yrs of age. $27.00 (SFW&S)

More sisslespurt from TheBloodyPulpit:
1. The Neal Rosenthal wines have been absent from the NM market for a number of yrs. We have a new wine distributor (Muse Wine Company) who has reconnected w/ Rosenthal & now bringing a limited number of his wines. I'm looking forward to trying more from the Rosenthal portfolio.
