1. AdamTolmach planted his original Estate vnyd in Oakview in the late '70's and made his first Syrah in '82. One of the first great Calif Syrahs. Unfortunately, he is located near a heavily-forested river bottom that harbors the glassy-winged sharpshooter & his vnyd eventually was killed off by Pierce's Disease. A few yrs ago, FPS/Davis released a few new varieties that are resistant to Pierce's Disease. The variety, Ambulo Blanc, developed by AndrewWalker, is 97% Vinifera, with the balance 1.5% V. arizonica, 1.5% V. rupestris. Not done, though, by tinkering around with the genes, so is a non-GMO grape variety. It is said to resemble SauvBlanc. I can see that similiarity to Adam's SB, but it reminded me more of his Riesling. The CaminanteBlanc has much the same makeup. Both are 62.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.5% Carignane, and 12.5% Chardonnay.
The wine is not strikingly different from other Calif varietals, which should help in marketing it.
