We tasted last week at Pig+Fig some PinotNoirs:
1. Estate Pinot 2007: Med.color w/ some browning; rather cedary/pencilly/oldRed little PN fruit some tired/funky light cherry/PN some complex nose; fairly tart strong cedary/pencilly/oldRed slight PN/cherry/fruit some tired/dried out flavor w/ light gentle tannins; not much life left in this wine, over the hill. $nc (??)

1. Wine #1 was a hand-labeled btl that was given me by some winemaker that he bttld direct from the barrel and slapped a label on it. My best guess is that it was Adam Tolmach, or maybe Emilio Castelli. Alas, the wine was way over the hill.

2. Boheme: This was a terrific expression of c-c/SonomaCoast PN. It comes from Vincent Rago's (Al Rago's son) vnyd out on Taylor Ridge Rd, not far from the Que Syrah vnyd and the original pergola PN vnyd Kurt put in for the Caymus operation.

3. Tolpuddle: I don't recall ever having a Pinot from Tasmania. This comes from the extreme SE of Tasmania & one of the coldest growing areas in Tasmania. I was quite impressed by the floral/perfumed character of this Pinot.

Interesting set of wines. Glad the Ojai did reasonably well. 2007 was smack dab in the middle of the craziest period for Pinot in California - even from more moderate producers.
