13% alc. Medium-deep hazy ruby colour with some sumac-like bricking at the meniscus. With swirling, legs form in slow motion. Savoury tomato and cherry-candy aromas over top walnut husks; a hint of chicken coop on the fore-palate. Wonderful, firm structure; properly bone-dry and very astringent, with expansive warmth beginning on the mid-palate and fanning out toward the finish. Crisp and grippy wine on the mid-palate; great with rare beef, but equally pleasant on its own. Flavours carry across the palate. With further swirling, hints of a Foch-like funk come through; no surprise that Foch has at times been likened to Burgundian Pinot. Well structured with lots of life left in it, but it drinks very nicely at present.
