WTN: Rebholz 2012 Rieslings

by Rahsaan » Sun Jul 13, 2014 6:09 pm

I don't have a lot of experience with Rebholz but have been enjoying bottles of the 2012 GGs as Germany made its way to the World Cup victory.

Tonight the Kastanienbusch was so piercingly focused it almost kept me aware of the endless back-and-forth on the pitch. It also showed an elevated level of elegance that was the most impressive of the weekend.

Of course the Im Sonnenschein and Ganz Horn Im Sonnenschein were not exactly inelegant and had plenty to get excited about. That is, if you get excited by crisp sharp deep mineral wines.

So I had fun, but clearly these bottles weren't showing their whole glory. I guess they really bloom after a lot of age?

Never had the desire to spend the money for Rebholz. Bottles opened by others have been very good, but they fail the CFE test.

Liked the dry QbA in past, but other bottlings always seemed steep for experimentation. Thanks for push, maybe should splurge

Yeah, that was always my attitude too. Which is why I'm taking advantage of my time in Berlin to drink some stuff I wouldn't buy at home. These 2012 GGs were $45-55 retail, which was fine value in my opinion, and I will buy a few more. But the $80-90 plus tax I see them for in the States is not worth it for my personal purchasing calculations.

I find Rebholz interesting but not that moving. And expensive for what it is.
