WTN: Non-bomb Zin

by John Treder » Sat Jul 12, 2014 10:50 pm

This time I'll put the details at the top:
Dry Creek Valley, Yoakim Bridge Zinfandel 2008, bought 3/13, $32.40 club price. 14.5% alcohol

Sorta two notes, because I can't drink a whole bottle all by myself when I have to drive.
Opened at Spinster Sisters restaurant on Wednesday. Excellent Zin, just in the right place, gained depth and keeping black fruit. Fine with carrot soup, great with sesame-crusted sweetbreads, and pleasant with a "breadcrumb fried duck egg" over black rice.
Ambrosia with Saturday spaghetti! What an aroma! And serious muscle in it.

Perhaps high alcohol isn't everything?

Coincidentally enough, earlier this week a friend opened a 2004 Yoakim Bridge Syrah and we were impressed by it's muscle and finesse!

David finally released his '04 Syrah last October. I tasted it and it was just amazing. I'm sort of waiting for a reason to open one of my bottles. 8)

Hmm... I have a Preston Family club shipment to pick up. Maybe I should make an extra stop? Is this 2004 a club-only wine?

I don't know, Brian. They're open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and David and Virginia are great people. I think you'd enjoy a stop there. All reds.
