Tried these two whilst back in KansasCity the other week:
1. Dom.SaintAmant Jacques Wallut Viognier AC: Cotes du Rhone (MeBaD; 13.5%; No.1) 2012: Light gold color; very light pear/Viog some stony/earthy almost no nose; very tart/lean/metallic stony/earthy very slight pear/peach/Viog flavor; short stony/metallic/earthy very tart/lean very slight pear/Viog finish; a lean/ugly/eviscerated wine w/ no Viog fruit to speak of; should appeal to the AFWE but not to me. $16.00 (Gom)
____________
2. Dauvergne Ranvier Ad'OP: Cotes du Rhone Blanc Vin Gourmand (13.5%; www.TheSortingTable.com; 55% Viognier/35% Grenache/10% Roussanne) 2012: Light gold color; pleasant appley/stony/earthy slight lanolin/hand lotion nose; fairly tart/lean/tangy rather stony/appley slight floral/peach flavor; med.short tart/tangy/metallic rather stony/earthy light appley/pear finish; a pleasant/simple little Rhone Blanc but just that; seems more like Marsanne than Viognier/GrenacheBlanc; should appeal to the gourmands but not much to me. $20.00 (UdW)
