This Riesling from the Kallstadter Steinacker vineyard and 2001 vintage was very nice and perfectly sound tonight with fresh caught bulegills from our pond. With a medium amber color and lots of peach on the nose, the palate followed with balancing acidity. Lots of tartrate sediment and 10.5% abv, I'd say this wine is at or slightly past peak so drink up. Terry Theise Selection and 7.00$ on deep discount in Fort Wayne.

I would more guess mediocre storage at the retailer. But that's just me.

You are probably correct. Although not terrible storage conditions, not nearly ideal.
