RIP Laurence Faller of Domaine Weinbach

by Hoke » Tue May 13, 2014 12:26 pm

A report came across the wire recently that was saddening.

Laurence Faller, the beautiful and extremely talented former-winemaker at Domain Weinbach, has apparently died of cardiac arrest at the age of 47 in Alsace.

Not too long ago, Ms. Faller gave up her long term post of winemaker and people wondered why. Don't know if it was her health that was the problem or not. In any case, she left her elderly mother, her sister/partner at Weinbach, and two young children.

For all the truly splendid Domaine Weinbach wines you produced over the years, we salute you and mourn your passing, Ms. Faller, and our heartfelt condolences go out to your family for their loss.

So terribly sad, for so many reasons.

What incredibly sad news! She was an attractive and vivacious young woman when I met her some 15 years ago and her exceptional talent jumps straight out of the glass.

RIP

I too met her here in Edmonton and showed her my signed photo of her mother. Lovely lady indeed.

Very sad for her family and friends, and for the wine world in general. I had a memorable tasting with her at the estate many years ago that I'll always remember.

Okay, I'm not up on my Gaelic as much as a good Irish boy should be, but I know that's something about 'the right hand of God, Kelly. :D

I thought maybe the "uasail" had to do with drinking, but that would probably be just wishful thinking on my part. :D

Kind of ironic that this happened when the wine focus of the month was Alsace...
