New Zealand Pinot Gris

by Jim Grow » Mon Apr 14, 2014 8:22 pm

2012 Pinot Gris Seifried was a just fabulous wine with medium deep straw color and nose and palate of apricot and lots of ginger-like spice. The acidity completely cleansed the palate leaving a slight tinglyness. This wine probably qualifies as a focus wine as it was probably under $20. abv of 13% and imported by American Wine Distributors. www.seifried.co.nz I will be on the look-out for more and went very well with rotissiere chicken and stuffing!

I like Seifried a lot. They are a family winery in the Nelson area, which is a bit cooler than nearby Marlborough. Good, well priced Pinot Noir, Chard, Riesling and they also have a very good sweet wine called Sweet Agnes, which I think is their best wine. They even make a Zweigelt. I've never had the Pinot Gris. Thanks for the note.
