WTN: Sausal "Century Vines" Zin '07

Dee-licious!! Everything that an old-vine Zin should be, and low alcohol (for Zin) too. Bought at the winery 14.7% alcohol

It's too bad that Sausal is no more. Silver Oak bought the property and tore out all the zin and planted Cab.

Progress?

John,
Zin is losing quite a bit of ground in Alexander valley. Couple of years ago, before the Sausal Zins were torn out, I remarked about the Silver Oak acquisition of Sausal to an establishment nearby (it was either Hanna or Fieldstone). The chap replied that Alexander Valley is Cab country and that given the economics, it was inevitable. Alexander valley makes outstanding cabs but I cannot but lament the gradual loss of Alexander Valley Zinfandels. Thankfully there are still quite a few places making fine Zins out there.

Alexander Valley Vineyards makes some nice zins...even with the cutesy marketing names. ("Sin Zin")
