Mt. Harlan, Gavilan Mountains, San Benito County, CA. From back label: limestone soil; California's Central Coast; planted in 1975 with St. George rootstock; average ripeness at harvest is 25.5% sugar; fermented with native yeasts; barrel-aged for 16 months in 60-gallon French oak barrels (15% new); nonfiltered; 1262 case equivalents
14% alcohol by volume. The color is close to cordovan. The wine flavors are a nice marriage of something savory such as hoisin sauce with dark fruits (plumskins and berries.) It is both food-friendly and nice for sipping on its own. It could pair with duck breast, roast fowl, pork or beef. I had it with a beef and noodle dish. In my opinion it is on a good drinking plateau and probably won't improve significantly but might hold for several more years. I wish I had more bottles!
