Somewhat interesting article in today's SFChron by Jon on some of the Languedoc Whites:
SFChron:LanguedocWhites

Nothing really earth-shaking but gives a nice look at an area that most don't think of for white wines.

For a while, when I was living in Paris, I was digging the fresher Languedoc whites. Interesting grapes, full flavor profiles, but the right producers/grapes/vineyards don't have to be heavy or overdone. And it didn't hurt that they were so well-priced. However, I eventually gave up on the wines. In part because there is so much other compelling stuff. But also because it was hard to try to get a handle on 'terroir' as there wasn't the same selection of producers all working the same vineyard/village as you find in the Loire/Germany/Austria. It seemed more scattershot.

There are some names there I am quite familiar with but alas no chance of finding over here.
