Notes from a dinner with friends.

2011 Kiln House White – this is a small lots project from Stag’s Hollow in BC. It is a 63% Grenache blanc, 22% Viognier and 15% Marsanne blend. Grassy cheesy nose, soft entry, almost some petillance, then acidity comes in near the end, which makes it seem to finish dry whereas it had seemed to be off dry up to that point. Interesting.

2009 Argiolas Perdera – a Sardinian wine made from the Monica grape, this had a really good spicy black cherry nose, medium body and length. Very pleasant.

2003 Dom. des Pallieres Gigondas – simple sweet ripe nose and while it gained a bit of complexity if you worked at it, it was a decent but ultimately lacking wine – just a poor bottle, I expect.

2004 Richter Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr Rielsing Spatlese – sweet ripe nose, with only hints of petrol, quite sweet but well balanced, with a long persistent finish. Good now, no rush. Very nice. Enjoyed with a Vacherin de Mont d’Or cheese from Arnaud (France).
