A few more from the end of last year.
2010 Château La Grave à Pomerol (Trigant de Boisset)
Planted to 85% Merlot/15% Cabernet Franc – unsure of the exact composition for this wine, however.
Medium-bodied, with good acidity; tannins are currently prickly and a bit hard. Just an hour or so, though, makes a big difference as far as softening the tannins, and the wine becoming quite approachable. Rose-scented, lightly earthy, just a bit sappy, with red berry, red currant, and blueberry notes. Some clove/allspice on the finish.
2010 Dominio de Pingus Ribera del Duero “Flor de Pingus”
Full-bodied, moderately oaky, smooth, well balanced, lightly floral, redolent with cherries, dark berries, and red currants, with vanilla and spice notes. Excellent.
2009 Castello di Ama Chianti Classico Riserva
80% Sangioveto; and 20% Malvasia Nera, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Lightly earthy/spicy, medium-bodied, structured, very elegant, with very pure cherry fruit. Excellent.
2010 Coup de Foudre Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Full-bodied, though not one of the larger scaled wines here; nicely structured and balanced, with blackberry, currant, plum, earth, spice, chocolate, and vanilla notes. Excellent.
2011 Domaine Alain Voge Saint-Péray “Fleur de Crussol”
100% Marsanne, from 70+ year old vines. Gluey, lightly floral/mineral nose. Full-bodied, round, well balanced, with moderate acidity, and some new oak; shows honey, hazelnut, white fruit, mineral, anise, and spice notes. Excellent.
2009 Château Mouton Rothschild Aile d’Argent
72% Sauvignon (both Blanc and Gris); 27% Semillon, and 1% Muscadelle. Full-bodied, rich, fatter, nicely balanced, lightly mineral, with floral, lemon, honey, wax; white tropical fruit; and hazelnut notes. Anise/spice drops on the finish. Excellent.
2008 Cadence Winery Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Proprietary Red Wine Red Mountain
38% Cabernet Franc, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Petit Verdot, and 12% Merlot. Lightly smoky, with coconut and cherries on the nose. Full-bodied, structured, with notes of blackcurrants, dark berries, cherries, licorice, and some herbs. A bit hot on the finish.
2004 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Rouge Belle Dame
From a single parcel within Les Romains. Nose of cherries, earth, cocoa, and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, bone dry, focused and poised; with good underlying acidity. Quite mineral, with layers of cherries, raspberries, and plums; along with earth, spices, lightly toasty oak, and floral notes. Already approachable, but with enough structure left to ensure that it can keep going for another decade or so. Excellent.
2004 Domaine Zind-Humbrecht Gewürztraminer Herrenweg de Turckheim
Floral/lychee/lightly smoky nose. Full, round, well balanced, lightly sweet, with honey, lychee, tropical fruits, and spices. Very good+.
2007 Domaine Marcel Deiss Rotenberg
Field blend of approximately half-and-half of Riesling and Pinot Gris. Medium-bodied, round, lightly sweet, nicely balanced, with good acidity. Stony/chalky; floral; initially dominated by lemon, pear, pineapple, caramel, and leafy herbal notes; eventually, licorice flavors replace the leafiness and the caramel. Excellent.
1986 Château Pichon-Longueville-Comtesse de Lalande
45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 8% Petit Verdot. Full, smooth, elegant, concentrated, with dusty tannins; lightly meaty, floral, with flavors of crème de cassis, plums, cherries, cedar, and spices. Outstanding.
