1983 JJ Christoffel Erben Erdener Treppchen Riesling Kabinett
I came across this wine in Germany this summer. Provenance did not seem to be an issue as it had been sent to the Bremen Ratskeller upon release and stayed in those cellars until my arrival. But of course I wasn't sure what to expect from a thirty year old Kabinett. Upon opening last night, I was pleasantly surprised. I feared rusty sour wine but was greeted by a pleasingly vibrant creamy-ish sweet-ish wine. Very integrated, very comfortable texture, very lovely to smell, and very enjoyable to drink for a few glasses. No major fireworks but expectations were more than surpassed.
