WTN: Syraarrrrr!

2009 Rhys Syrah Horseshoe Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (9/18/2013)
Absolutely amazing Syrah. Of course it is incredibly young, but it has all the depth and balance needed for a long and positive future. The fruit is deep and dark, though not at all over ripe. There's a firm, fine backbone of structure, and great presence throughout. The long finish goes slightly astringent, just reminding that the wine needs a lot more time than i was willing to give it. This is a fantastic wine, and just another piece of evidence that Syrah in the proper locations is just a great a winemaking grape as anything else planted in the state. Syrah a tough sell? Sell it to me!
