WTN: Dehlinger Syrah '06...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Aug 27, 2013 11:36 am

Tried this last night w/ dinner:
1. Dehlinger Syrah Estate/RRV (14.9%) Sebastapol 2006: Very dark color w/ no bricking; very strong blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/slight licorice some peppery/cold-climate rather toasty/pencilly/classic Dehlinger oak slight Rhonish/coffee/espresso beautiful/complex nose; fairly tart strong blackberry/Syrah/boysenberry/framboise strong toasty/smokey/Dehlinger oak slight peppery/Rhonish/coffee flavor w/ some drying/astringent tannins; very long/lingering strong toasty/smokey/oak strong blackberry/Syrah/licorice slight peppery finish w/ some drying tannins; loads of blackberry/RRV Syrah w/ classic Dehlinger oak & slight Rhonish character; starting to dry out a bit & should be drunk. $36.00 (vBS)

A wee BP:
1. Dehlinger doesn't get a whole lot of buzz over their Syrahs but they are some of the best being made in Calif. They always show that classic toasty Dehlinger oak that you find in their Pinots...a signature of the Dehlinger wines. And just the right touch of cold-climate Syrah to give just a touch of peppery & Rhonish character. Great producer/great prices.

If I was sentenced to drinking only California-ish oaky/toasty vanilla blueberry shakes, I could survive on a Dehlinger diet.

What they do, they do very, very well.
