1998 Meulenhof Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (8/11/2013)
Remarkably fresh fruit in this 15 year old spatlese - lots of apples as well as lemon and vanilla. All that is on a base of slate with only moderate sweetness. Delicious to drink on its own - not rich or sweet enough to stand up to our spicy curry.

2011 Meulenhof Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese Alte Reben - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (8/11/2013)
This is more than a bit of a monster. Rich, tropical fruit, enough sweetness for dessert, but a good companion to spicy curry. There's honey in the finish, and also some slate. Drink it for dessert or with spicy food. Or put it in the cellar for a couple of decades. It has all the elements to profit from long aging.

Finished off the auslese tonight-overwhelmingly tropical, and showing more brightness than I typically get from 2011. Still seems as though it would qualify as Beerenauslese.
