Visit to DC area

I will be attending a Sheryl Crow Concert in Fredericksburg, VA on July 12 (a Friday) and then spending two or three nights in the DC area. Any interest in an offline in DC or Baltimore on July 13, 14 or 15? I will have my car and I'm flexible as to where we meet.

Don't bring really good Rhones, JC. Roscoe will bogart them.

I'm always a tentative yes, providing the kids aren't sick or what not. Lots of good spots around town. These are my favorites (good offerings, and wine that I can more or less afford):

I'm very much a city dweller so I don't know much that happens outwith the Boundary Stones.

Range should be an option. Chef Voltaggio's place in Northwest DC, Friendship Heights area. I might be able to get the $20 corkage waived. You can order as much or as little food as you want so cost is up to you. Master Sommelier Keith Goldston is wonderfully warm and welcoming. Either way we go, Liz and I would to be there and bring some wines as our calendar looks open.

Thanks for the offer, Jon. If we could even get a break on paying corkage for the first two wines we bring or something like that and maybe order one or two bottles off the restaurant list that would probably be doable. It could get very costly if we pay corkage on every bottle we bring. I would be willing to kick in a little more than my share if we do have to pay corkage.

I intend to bogart all the good wines. Please don't limit my selfishness!

Oops, forgot Range. I know Owen Thomson there too. I've only eaten there once, being a bit Charlie Buckets, but the food killed.

I have made a reservation at Range for the 14th at 5:30 pm and one on the 15th at 6:45 pm. Both are for 6 people and both can be cancelled if we all go somewhere else.
I went ahead and made them since it can be difficult to get reservations, especially on the weekends.

I appreciate that Jon. Do others have a preference on the date?

Another nice thing about Range, the cost of wine off the wine list is not much more than retail. We sell a Merry Edwards PN for $80 at the wine shop and Range sells it for $90, but I don't think we'd have to buy any.

Do you really have to meet me to figure this out? However in this case we have met and in fact Hoke taught me how to appreciate and pronounce Aglianico. I will always appreciate that lesson!

Range or any of the restaurants Kelly mentioned are wonderful choices. If we choose Range, I'd like to pick a date so I can cancel the unnecessary reservation.

James, Kelly, are you in for one of the suggested dates at Range? I will contact my friends Connie and Sallie once we have a date and see if either of them is interested although Sallie is not really into wine. If you have an objection to Range as being too pricy, time to speak up. I would like to try Range but I am flexible.
Jon, do you still collect corks? I have been saving some to bring you if you still can use them. I haven't sterilized them or anything.

Please go ahead and pick a date. Jeannette and I will see JC a month later at the World's greatest offline in Ann Arbor. We will try to join you all for this event.

I favor the 14th (Sunday) if that will work for others. It's also Bastille Day so maybe we should focus on French wines.

Jon, I suggest go ahead and cancel the Monday reservation and let's plan on Sunday the 14th. I will contact Sallie and Connie and see if they are interested and get back to you for the number of people.
