1)Guess time for a red, but something on the lighter style with summer and patio season here.

2) Alternatively how about South Africa? Lots of goings-on there at the present time.

Well, it's been nearly a year, so how about Think Pink?

I have some rose' wines on hand and would like to focus on them either in June or July.

Seems like a good idea. For July we should try to do something that wraps around American Independence Day and French Bastille Day.

What summer and patio season? It's still cold and wet here. Many Burgundy vineyards are flooded. And some met experts are telling us that past records show that, after a cold and wet Spring, there is a 2 out 3 chance of a similar summer.

It's all caused by global warming .

PS South Africa would be interesting but I need a trip into down-town Brussels to find anything more than plonk.

We can discuss Howie's suggestion later in the month but why NOT French-American hybrids PLUS something broader. I've had some nice wines from hybrids but may not be able to find them locally. It could be an education for the Europeans or others who have never had a Seyval Blanc, Vignoles or Vidal wine (I admit that I am not sure which grape varieties are truly French-American hybrids and which are hybrids of say two European varieties, etc.)

I would say that there is ALWAYS room for an "Open Mike" discussion of something like this, but for the monthly Wine Focus we want a topic that is of broad interest and worldwide availability. When we try anything that's either obscure or, frankly, generally unpopular, we invariably end up spending a month with a quiet topic and few participants. The best Wine Focus topics are those that engage conversation, and I just don't see hybrids doing that, sorry.

But again, a discussion on them is always welcome, and if an open-mike thread takes off, who knows? It might even persuade me that I'm w- w- wrong in my thinking.
