WTN: Massican sauvignon '12...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed May 22, 2013 10:28 am

Tried this last night w/ my salad:
1. Massican sauvignon NapaVlly (13.7%) 2012: Pale yellow color; quite lovely SB/figgy/melony light herbal slight stony/earthy rather spicy/perfumed quite attractive nose; very tart/steely/metallic light stony/mineral strong SB/melony/figgy bit herbal/perfumed talc fairly rich lithe/lively flavor; med.long bit metallic/steely/tart strong SB/melony/figgy/ripe slight herbal/earthy/perfumed talc/stony finish; more like a Friuli SB than Loire or Bdx or Calif; reminds me a bit of the Jermann whites (they don't make SB) in style; a rather quiet/gentle/graceful rendition of Calif SB in the style of Ludovico Einaudi. $27.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Massican is the label that DanPetroski uses for his wines. More or less in a Friulian style. I'm not a huge fan of Calif SB, but I liked this one a lot. It avoids the sometimes aggressively herbal notes you get in some Calif SB's and has a gentle/carressing feel on the palate...maybe even a bit soporific.
