WTN: Zind Humbrecht Gewurztraminer 2004

Light golden yellow in the glass.

A very rich nose, with apple, spice, honey and apricots.

The nose sets you up to expect a sweet wine. What you get is an incredibly rich and complex, but quite dry, wine. Fascinating.

Oily in the mouth, baked apple, apricots, a hint of bitter grapefruit, lightly candied, good acidity, rose petals, lychee and ginger.

A long finish.

Very impressive.

Fun wines, aren't they?

This was obviously the low level, non-vineyard designated wine. So hopefully it wasn't too expensive..

Yes, it was the entry-level ZH and I purchased three for $25.95 Canadian. I believe I received my money's worth.

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for this note. I just purchased two bottles of this wine. I read the tasting note in WS and it sounded really good. Glad to get confirmation from a fellow wine lover. Can't wait to try it with spicy  Thai or Chinese food.

I'm not a fan of ZH Rieslings or dry PG, but the Gewurz is probably the grape where the ZH style and my tastes coincide the best.

I'd gladly kill for ZH Clos Windsbuhl Gewurztraminer. Any takers?

Prost!
