And a wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Adam makes frequently this Ojai Rad and Ojai White. They have always been exceptional values. The Red is generally of blend of Syrah and PinotNoir, sometimes some Grenache therein. When they're pumping out the barrels at bottling time, they take the dregs in barrel, run it thru a filter, blend them, bottle it, and move it out the door cheap.
As I searched about for a red to open, I stumbled across this btl of OjaiRed. From other btls in the box, I suspect it was about a 2004 or 2005; so it was sorta a throw-away wine. But is was much better than that. The wine spoke mostly of Syrah, but had a bit of a floral component which may have been the Pinot. Actually pretty delicious.
Since they don't vintage-date the Ojai Red/White, and the blend varies from year-to-year; Adam has taken to laser-etching the bottling date into the btl near the bottom..so at least you have some idea what you got.
