This event held annually at a Holiday Inn benefits the Fayetteville CARE Clinic which provides medical services and referrals and tooth extractions for the indigent. A large distributor furnishes the wines and Carrabba's Restaurant and Fayetteville Tech Community College culinary students provide the food. Some items were raffled off (I bought a ticket for a Panthers game and overnight in Charlotte but did not win.) The wines are mainly on the lower end--very few retail for over $30 and most were under $20. One of the more expensive wines for tasting was an Alexander Valley Vineyard School Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve which I did enjoy. The Viva Mango and Strawberry Moscatos from Italy were popular with some but I didn't get around to trying them.

The ones I ordered for later pickup:
Terra D'Oro Zinfandel from Amador, CA
Terra D'Oro Zinfandel "Port" (19% abv)
Wild Horse Pinot Noir, Central Coast, CA
When I can get a Zinfandel I like for under $15.00 and a Pinot Noir I like for under $19.00 I'm happy. I also saw people there that I knew from church and past work connections and as members of the Fayetteville Wine Society.

Last year I liked the Crossings Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, N.Z. and ordered some bottles. This year I found the wine to be too austere for my taste even though I like crisp, tart S.B. I also tried a South African Chenin Blanc, a Torrontes and a Malbec from Argentina, a Rioja Crianza from Spain, another New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and a N.Z. Pinot Noir and maybe a few others I'm forgetting. I really attend this event more to support the CARE Clinic than for great wine discoveries.
