WTN: 2001 Chateau Souverain DCV Zin

by Shaji M » Sun Mar 24, 2013 11:54 am

One of those wines that got passed over in the cellar for too many years. Contrary to my expectations, this wine (subtitled Winemakers Reserve) was really showing well. It did not have the brashness and punch of a DCV Zin in it's youth, but it had softened enough to reveal some elegant fruit. Finish was still pretty long. I need to keep some of my DCV Zins in the cellar a little longer if they all show like this.
Chateau Souverain, is a big castle like estate on the west side of Interstate 101 between Healdsburg and Cloverdale. It has gone through some changes since we viisted it last (a decade ago) and in it's current avatar, it is Francis Ford Coppola's domain. I wonder what they did with all their Zinfandel vineyards.
