WTN: Three This Weekend...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Mar 17, 2013 8:05 pm

We tried this weekend:
1. StCosme AP: CdR Blanc (13.5%; 30% Roussanne/20% Viognier/20% Marsanne/30% Picpoul) 2011: Med.dark color; really lovely floral/honeysuckle/Rouss bit smokey/earthy/mineral some apple/pear some complex nose; rather tart rich/stony/mineral slight piney/resiny/smokey/earthy some floral/honeysuckle/mead complex flavor; very long tart rather stony/mineral/earthy some green apple/floral/honeysuckle/honeyed slight metallic/steely finish; quite an attractive combination of stony/mineral and lush Rouss fruit; a serious/structured RhoneBlanc; needs several yrs and should go out 10 yrs; great price at $17.00 (WEx)

2. Carlisle Zin SonomaCnty (14.9%; 71% RRV/29% SonomaVlly; 675 cs) 2011: Med.dark color; strong blackberry/raspberry/Zin/framboise quite spicy light pencilly/oak very attractive nose; fairly soft/smooth very spicy/blackberry/raspberry/Zin/framboise light pencilly/oak flavor; med.long very spicy/blackberry/raspberry/Zin light pencilly/oak finish w/ a slight lean/tannic bite in the aftertaste; a very nice-drinking Zin at a great price; very nice drinking over the next 1-5 yrs. $23.00

3. EricTexier NobleRot "botrytis" Mout de Raisins Partiellement Fermente (11%; 100% Chard from Macon) Charnay 1999: Deep golden/brown color like light Oloroso sherry; intense peachy/apricotty/botrytis/honeyed light earthy/orangey some complex/old R nose; quite sweet very tart intense honeyed/botrytis/apricotty/peachy/fruit cocktail some earthy/orangey slight tovaccoy/smokey (oak?) slight volatile flavor; very long/lingering quite sweet tart honeyed/orangey/botrytis/peachy/apricotty light earthy bit smokey/tobaccoy/cedary finish; very much like an old Calif TBA Riesling than anything; huge botrytis but a bracing acidity that should carry it out another 10-20 yrs. $45.00/hlf

And a wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Carlisle: This basic SonomaCnty Carlisle Zin was really good drinking at a great price. Shoulda backed up the truck. Not quite as rich/powerful/structured as the other Zins, but well worth the tarriff paid. In this price range, it blows away the Seghesio SonomaCnty Zin and the Ridge 3Vllys Zin.
