Leoville Barton that is.

2002 Leoville Barton
Still not quite out of its shell. Some forward oak, and some dark fruit come out with swirling. After a bit of air a hole in the mid-palate fills in, reminding me that I woke this wine from slumber. That said, it was lovely with my grilled lamb chops, so the payoff was there.

Can't recall if I bought any 02 Leovilles or not. It might be the 01 I have. The only 02 I know for certain that I have and of which I did try a bottle is Montrose, which may not be ready in my lifetime.

I just ordered a bottle of this! How long do you recommend giving it yet, and how long do you suppose it will last?

Thanks David! Will give it at least 10 years. It's my wife and I's wedding vintage, so it will probably get opened for a significant (i.e., multiple of 5) anniversary.

We did that with 1975 Lafite. It provides a great focal point - something to always look forward to.

Is the 75 Lafite ready to drink yet?

I still have 3 bottles. Had one in 2010 - maturing nicely, but I think the best bottle was in 2000.

thanks for data point David, I'll leave my few bottles alone for a while.
Howie didn't drink all his 75 Lafite, he donated a bottle to a charity auction - I won and quite enjoyed it!
