12.5% alcohol by volume. First of the 2009 Beaujolais Cru wines I have opened. Deep purple color; nearly opaque. Viscous. Black fruits such as plum and blackberries. More juicy and fruity than I expected. May be prime drinking now for beguiling fruitiness. I'm not sure whether more cellaring would bring to the fore some depth and complexity or if this is as good as it is likely to get. I do hope for something more from some of my 2009 Beaujolais Cru purchases. I had this with smoked salmon, wild rice, and green beans and another evening with salisbury steak.

Sorry that I had a typo originally in the subject heading.

I'm actually finding some of the '09s a bit hard right now.

What would you advise, David? Should I wait a couple years on the others?

Okay. I have plenty of other wines to drink in the meantime. I will be opening a couple German Rieslings in the next week or two for our monthly focus.

Is it stopped by one of those horrible plastic corks which Brun often misguidedly uses? If so, drink up.

Tim,

Have you seen the plastic corks in other than the cuvee l'amcien? That (red and white) is the only cuvee where I have found them. All crus have been real cork.

I've found a note about one on a CĂ´tes de Brouilly 2006 and I think that I've seen one on a Morgon.

People still use plastic coks? Really? That is just a travesty, even for a Gamay which is generally drunk young.

Over here, most people prefer plastic to screwcap on the grounds that it looks more like the "real thing" .
