2005 J & HA Strub Niersteiner Paterberg Riesling Spätlese *** - Germany, Rheinhessen (1/25/2013)
Under screw cap, 8.5% av for those who like the technical info.

Boisterous peach and pineapple fruit with a tinge of spice. Rich but not at all thick, this had penetrating flavor with no heaviness despite its obvious ripeness. Long, peachy finish that come through with a bit of a kick of acidity at the end. Easy, easy, easy to drink.

David, I do not have any access to Rheinhessen up here. What does one look for, say in comparison to a Mosel or a Rheingau?

I thought this was going to be a Diel Pittermännchen TN!

Bob,

The Paterberg is not a "great" vineyard, so the wines tend to be easy and very fruit forward. Not the slatiness that you find in Mosel. Strub has better vineyards, but I always enjoy the friendly wines of the Paterberg. They represent good quality, great value drinking.
