It was unsually quiet in the wine country around noon and we had the undivided attention of the pourer who was also the wine maker, Jim McMahon. He was a really nice guy and talked at length about the wines and his style of winemaking. If Jim's style of winemaking is where the current trend in Napa is headed, it bodes well for the valley and serious wine lovers everywhere. They are restrained yet approachable, extremely food friendly yet had ample fruit to show their Rutherford origin (the Pinot Noir was sourced from the Sonoma Coast and the Chardonnay I believe is from Carneros)
The 2010 Pinot Noir was floral, delicate on the nose but had heft on the palate, forest floor, strawberries
2011 Chardonnay was citrusy, light on the oak and just the right touch of butteriness
2008 Cabernet Franc- herbal, spice, red fruits. It was my favorite wine and extremely food friendly
2008 Cabernet Sauvignon-black currant, cherry, earthy wine.
2008 Rutherford Red was a blend of Cab Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Malbec-their flagship wine. The bottle has newly opened and it could have easily benefitted with some air. Opened up very nicely in the glass.
2009 Simpatico is a Cabernet Franc and a Cabernet Sauvignon blend- a very approachable and easy drinking red.
I was quite impressed by this place and will certainly stop again the next time I am on the Silverado Trail.
