Opened a bottle of 2009 Mario Perelli-Minetti Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir with wild rabbit tonight and was amazed immediately by the quality. Medium purple with slight bricking at the edge, the nose and flavors were of strawberry and blackberry with a dusty quality in the background. I only intended to drink my usual 1/2 bottle (due to SWMBO) but could not resist killing the bottle. With %15.1 abv, I would have guessed %13 as it was that integrated. Glad I have 5 more but wish it was much more as 5-7 years might be very interesting for this wine. I'll set aside a couple for mid-term cellaring.

Sonoma Coast is my favorite appellation for Pinot Noir in California.

Hi Jim,

How was the wine food match? Did you fix the rabbit in a reduction sauce or have some gravy that went with the wine? Interesting wine food combination.

Hi Tom, my wife first fried the parts in an iron skillet with flour then baked them in the over. Wild rabbit and, I assume, tame rabbit is very mild so that is why I chose a Pinot Noir. I forgot to mention that there was a cola note to the flavors also and a prickly acidity that gave a tart finish that was very appealing.
