WTN: Ravenswood Zin DickersonVnyd '88..(short/booring)

Tried this last night w/ my tart flambee:
1. Ravenswood Zin DickersonVnyd/NapaVlly (13.0%; Picked: Sept 2; Bttld: July 5'90; 1000 cs; TA: 0.78) 1988: Med.light color w/ some bricking; strong cedary/pencilly/old Zin still some minty/eucalyptus somewhat complex attractive/fragrant nose; soft quite attractive old Zin/cedary/pencilly/tobaccoy light minthol/eucalyptus slightly dried out/tired flavor w/ some astringent tannins; long light berry/raspberry/Zin some mint/eucalyptus rather pencilly/cedary/tobaccoy/old Zin finish w/ some astringent/dried out tannins; still has some life & some interest but on the tired side and more of intellectual interest.

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. BillDickerson was a MarinCnty psychiarist that bought an old vnyd (planted in 1930) of Zin above StHelena. He rose to fame based on the vnyd-designate Zins that JoelPeterson made at Ravenswood in the early '80's. He eventually started his own label, but the bulk of his grapes continued to go to Ravenswood. He (probably) planted the RubyCabernet that he made a bit of under his own label. All the wines carried a distinctive minty/eucalyptus carried, probably from nearby trees. He & his wife both died when swept away by the 2005 tsunami that struck Thialand. Don't know who runs the property nowadays..probably one of their children.
