Napa. 55% Chardonnay, 44% Pinot Noir, 1% Pinot Meunier

Picked up a couple of these for $26 per and popped one last night with my wife and a close friend. Probably the best domestic sparkler I've ever had. Very fine agressive bead. Flavors of lemon custard, brioche and granny smith apple. Was very impressed and tastes like twice the cost. Nice to see this type of quality comming from the States. They also make a rose which I also bought but haven't tried yet.

From the web site:
"The Halyard, named for the sailing rope, is a non-vintage Brut from 2006 and 2007 fruit, with four years en tirage. The wine is both full-bodied and powerful with a creamy finish."

I've just read about this new California sparkling winery. Passed up an offer because it seemed over the top, and of course after reading your report I'm sorry. Will recitfy that next time, though, thanks to you.

$26 with that much time on the lees is quite a value. There is no profit at that point, but perhaps the can afford to break even or less for a while to build the name. If the grapes are from Napa, I'd think it is warm for sparkling there. Are grapes from several appellations? I plan to taste.

Have had both wines. Definitely worth the price.

We popped the 2007 "Sinnet" rose last night before midnight. A fun, more fruity sparkler that shows more red fruit, and much larger bubbles, but not the depth and finesse of the "Halyard". It was a nice way to ring in the New Year!
