I do not have too much experience with Spatburgunder but this trocken turned out to be a winner! 13% alc, $24 Cdn, served slightly chilled, good natural cork.

Nice aromatic profile here, raspberry, floral, good pinot quality. Entry is quite light in texture but great fruit balance and acidity. Some sweet ripe fruit flavours here and good depth. Held up well overnight, tad more savoury on day 2. A very good buy indeed!

Sounds delicious, Bob. We see hardly any German Spätburgunder here, even though the nearest region growing it, the Ahr valley, is only just over 200km from Brussels. This one seems to come from Kaiserstuhl in SW Germany where they should have much less difficulty in ripening the grapes.

Thanks Tim, it was delicious. My step=father lived in Haslach close to Freiburg so we were always a short drive away from some great weingut. I remember one lunch where he ordered a Spat from close by, I had never tasted anything like it before!
I enjoyed your remarks on the La Scala evening!
