WTN: 2011 Arindo Verdejo, Rueda, Spain (white wine)

I had first tasted this at Vino Volo in the Detroit Airport and bought a bottle to take home. I have since found it for less than half the price of the airport bottle and have ordered two more bottles for a Spanish tapas night at church in February. 13.5% alcohol by volume. Pale gold with slightly green tinge and transparency. Viscous. White fruits and minerals on the nose (at the airport tasting I found pear and grapefruit.) Dry and a bit biting on the palate with subtle fruit and acids and stones. I had this with spinach and feta cheese wrapped in phyllo but believe it could also stand up to mussels, clams, or snails prepared with garlic butter and finely chopped herbs. My rating would fall in the 86-88 range as very good for its type. 100% Verdejo grapes and it bears some resemblance to Sauvignon Blanc as far as its uses.

Excellent JC, you remember my Verdejo thread of three weeks ago? Yours sounds perfect.

i went back and reread that thread, Bob. I do think Verdejo has some resemblances to cool climate Sauvignon Blanc--maybe not to the more tropical SB. I went back and corrected the spelling of "Verdejo" in the headline of the original post--my typo.
