Betsy made pappardelle with a kinda radicchio meets bagna cauda sauce, wine was the
2007 Trimbach Pinot Blanc. I’m not a big PB fan, but quite enjoyed this (and knowing I paid $6/bottle helps). Sweet pear and peach flavors, some floral notes, moderate acids, easygoing but I’m not complaining at this price. B

Wednesday was salmon with buttered almonds, rice with nori, and broccoli. Before dinner we opened a 375 of the NV Laurent Perrier Champagne Brut. I’m a bit surprised to find this rather full-bodied, as I think of LP as on lighter side of spectrum (not that there’s anything wrong with that!). Citrus, apple, just light yeasty notes. B/B-

Dinner wine was the 2009 Vissoux/Chermette “Poncie” Fleurie. Juicy, ripe, this might not be classic Fleurie, it’s more plush and round than delineated and mineral, but quite tasty and not at all shut down. B+

Thursday I grilled lamb chops (in a persillade marinade with a little cumin and mint) and baked potatoes; plus we had, leftover broccoli,an arugula salad, and the 2000 La Louviere (Pessac Leognan). This was a gift (actually, probably an accidental regift, I probably gave it away soon after release, and got it back this month) that has probably been in not so perfect storage for 8 years or so (a basement where temps probably hit low 70s in summer). Plummy fruit, mostly resolved tannins, soft ending, not very long, this is ready to go but unsure how representative- I’ll try one of my bottles soon. B-

Friday Betsy had an early AM flight to CA, I was bushed by end of work day, picked up a supermarket rotisserie chicken for first time in ages, threw together a vegetable stirfried rice to accompany, and opened a bottle of 2008 J. Drouhin Gevrey-Chambertin. Actually, I opened TWO bottles of the 2008 Drouhin Gevrey Chambertin, as first was doing the most vigorous rendition of the Damp Cardboard Conga I’d run across in a while. The TCA free bottle was actually quite nice- tangy black cherry fruit, fresh, earth/mineral notes, nice grip. Drinking pretty well now, maybe some room for improvement, but sadly I only had 2. B+

Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
