Nuits-Saint-Georges 1ER CRU, Burgundy, France. A monopole of L'Arlot. 13% abv. Purchased from Burgundy Wine Company. Burgundy color; nearly opaque. Exhibits viscosity. Muted nose. The palate starts with approachable dark cherry fruit that is underpinned by an earthiness and lingering fine tannins. Overall, more refined than earthy and tannins nearly integrated. I rather wish I had opened this as I was finishing the 2001 Jean Grivot N-S-G "Les Boudots" so that I could have compared them side-by-side. I'm pretty certain my preference would be for the Clos des Forets, at least as both are drinking currently. I had to remind myself to slow down with this wine. The instinct was to gulp it. Maybe that makes it a less "serious" wine but it is certainly fun to drink.
