I'm bringing a friend (a first-time MoCooler and quite the wine geek himself).

I am planning on bringing a 2001 Barolo, a baby Brunello (Rosso di Montalcino), and probably a premier cru burg. However, I have not made up my mind completely yet and may bring a really nice bubbly from Argyle or Michigan.

MONTROSE VERTICAL ? ?

Postby Mike Conner » Thu Aug 02, 2012 10:56 am

So, heard from someone who was interested in supplying a bottle of Montrose ('82!) to my "vertical" suggestion for the Saturday Picnic. I'll therefore open my '66 and '70. I also have "younger" vintages I can also include, but would LOVE to hear from anyone else attending MoCool "SuperBBBBBs."

What say you?

(I will also post a new thread about this just to be sure folk see)

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
Sorry, but I have no Montrose to offer. However, I thought Sam Platt and Jay Baldwin were interested in putting this vertical together.

MONTROSE VERTICAL

Postby Mike Conner » Fri Aug 03, 2012 6:27 am

Julia,

Well, while I do have a strong constitution, I'd be in fairly sorry shape if I were to try to drink the two I've committed to bring by myself! Need mouths/glasses!

;-)

You're right, James. I am actually worse than a kid at Christmas. As soon as I drive away on Sunday, I'll start counting the days until MoCool 2013. It's not just about the fabulous wines and exquisite food; it's about the people. So many folks are coming that I am only fortunate enough to see on rare occasions, like Paulo, John Fiola, Howie, OW, Jeannette..and well, you plus too many others to name here. Then there are the "regulars" who make this seem more like a family reunion than just a wine tasting event. So, in response to your comment: YES, I am very excited about MoCool! Wish everyone could experience it.

TWO WEEKS!!!

Sounds good but have to say there was little follow up here after last years event. Not many TNs and no photos. I was disappointed that there was not much after the event.
Wish I can attend one year!

This is true, Bob. Robin used to be our photo-journalist for the event, and did such a fabulous job of it, I think no one else felt they could assume that role. We will definitely try to rectify that this year. Wish you could join us, too. Once you've experienced a MoCool, you want to return year after year.

Stay tuned!

I'm in for a 1997 and a 2004. I don't have anything older to contribute.

Saturday to and from Picnic from motel

Postby Mike Conner » Sat Aug 11, 2012 3:04 pm

I'm at the cabins, but my wine geek friend who I talked into coming up is staying at the motel Friday and Saturday (our mistake). Is anyone thinking of arranging cab from motel to picnic on Saturday?

Thanks,
Mike

Montrose vertical info

Postby Mike Conner » Sat Aug 11, 2012 3:13 pm

(reposted from other thread)

Just a quick update.

'66, '70, '75, '79, '82, '89, '90, '96, '97, '00, '02, '04 appear to be the current vintages that have been offered. Generously, Dale Williams has sent the '75 for the group to enjoy, so I want to say a special thanks to Dale, who isn't able to attend. THANKS.

For clarification, I hope to start into these ASAP on Saturday, presuming bottles are in attendance (think most will be there early). I think I'll open old to young with the help of all who have a bottle in the mix. And, I also think it most fair that those who do have a bottle in the vertical should get first pour from each new wine opened, and any remaining wine is available to anyone in attendance. Yes, this will get kinda messy, but with help of those bottle owners to open/pour and cooperation in general, most ought to be able to sample at least a few vintages.

I certainly suggest if you're a bottle donator, to bring EXTRA GLASSWARE as we'll be going through wines fairly quick so we don't take up the whole afternoon!

My thanks to all who have offered wines for this fun endeavor.

Mike
