Steininger has fast become one of my CHAMPIONS OF THE QPR, especially for Gruener Veltliner. I was interested to see how the Zweigelt measured up. As the name says, this was a wine harvested in november and it cues late-harvest flavors in spades. Black cherry, tangy raspberry and plum pudding flavors with a pumpkin bread spice and soft, smooth tannins, but with more acid than I would've expected. Although It's more plush and mouth-filling (but certainly not Port-like) than I'm used to for Austrian reds, fruit-nuke wine drinkers might still be put off by its relative leaness. The bottom line is that it's a great casual dinner wine (it went great with coq au vin tonight) and might just convert a few die-hard New Worldians over to the good side.

Prost!
