TN: Poeckl Sankt Laurent 2004 Burgenland, Austria

I've been a huge fan of Josef and Rene Poeckls wines, but had never tasted the St. Laurent. It's very good. The nose is wonderfully Bordelaise with sour cherry and pencil lead. There is a coffee and black tea flavor stewed into the middle, and a little cab franc"isch" cigar box too. The body is also similiar to much Cab Franc from Saumur-Champigny (2002, '04 not '03) -medium to light bodied with soft, smooth tannins (but not juicy) and little dart volleys of acidity. 13,0% vol. $23 Dieser Wein ist sehr gut! Ich werde morgen mehr kaufen!

Prost!

Bill, ich möchte einen auch kaufen ... but alas, it is unlikely to be available here in Ontario.

But please do keep the Austrian notes coming - they are a great inspiration to me, believe me.

Tschüß!

Vielen Dank für der WTN, Bill. Recently been interested in trying more Austrian reds. While I've had a few Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch, I've only tasted one St. Laurent (per my previous note on Habsburg wines) so I will look out for this one!

cheers,
al
