WTN: 1998 Pride Cabernet Franc

by David M. Bueker » Sat Oct 28, 2006 4:55 pm

Casual sipping by the computer...

Purple core, to ruby red on the rim. Cherry, spice, herb and cedar on the nose. The palate feel is soft, with the cherry and cedar leading the way. This is nothing like Pride Cab Franc on release, but I really like it a lot. It's balanced, flavorful and silky smooth on the finish. The only possible quibble is that it's not very long on the back end, but so what...it just tastes good.

I know most folks prefer these for the up front fruit, and I used to like that a lot more. But this (and a few more "basic" Prides) had been lingering in my cellar. In a way I have been experiementing to see what would happen. I'm glad I let them sit. There's still some '94, '95 and '96 wines down there, along with a few more '98s. Good stuff, and I think I will really enjoy them with winter fare over the next couple of years.
