WTN: Tement Steirische Klassik Sauvignon Blanc 2005

by Bill Hooper » Thu Oct 26, 2006 10:01 pm

From Suedsteiermark, on the Slovenian border. This is Tements entry level Sauvignon Blanc, but a nice one. Clean, vibrant lemon and grapefruit flavors without any new-world fig or kiwi. A little flinty with dicey acidity. Lighter in style, maybe a little underripe, but not unpleasantly so and not at all grassy-quite unfairly this wine was tasted after a Lower-Austrian Gruener Veltliner and had to be re-tasted later to be accurately assessed. Tement has some of the best Sauvignon Blanc vineyards in Austria, and this is a blend of his sites completely vinified in stainless steel. 12% alcohol, $17

Prost!

Bill:

Yup, Tement is a reliable quality producer. Haven't had as many of the Styrian wines as I'd like, but those I've had from Tement have always been good.

Sounds like the 2005 is no exception.

And it's sealed under Vino-Lok glass stoppers, at least the bottles I have seen. No more TCA, thank god!
