Thanks for posting this, Gary. I worried a little that this was just a Riedel puff piece, albeit one filled with lots of interesting factoids.

But the conclusion is right on the money in my book:

The fact is, one can get by with just a large-bowled, 20-plus-ounce Bordeaux glass for most reds (to aerate and open up the heavier berry and tannin nuances), and a smaller, narrower-bowled Chablis glass that holds a minimum of 11 ounces to concentrate the lighter, more floral aspects of white wines. Or you may want to check out the 8-ounce, tulip-shaped "all-purpose wineglass" developed by the California Wine Institute in San Francisco (415-512-0151; http://www.wineinstitute.org). But whichever glass or glasses you select, get the best you can afford.
