Random picks from the wine store this afternoon.

Tonight we shared a 99 Arrowood Sonoma Cab; a gift from a friend, with steak, roasted brussels sprouts, and heirloom tomato salad (the last of the season here in Ohio, alas...)

Tomorrow, we're doing pepita crusted grouper sauteed in oo, with spinach and garlic (yay!) and Pachen's garlic potatoes. I'm thinking white with this, maybe Elena Walch's 2004 Gewurz, for a slightly twisted pairing, or a Soave for more traditonal. Or maybe the 2005 Castello di Ama Rosato...

So many wines, so little liver....

Tonight I opened a 2000 Riegnac tan label. What's with this? Big overblown piece of crap with harsh tannins, almost no acidity. DNPIMWF. So I opened a 2000 Dom Martinho, Lafite's property in Portugal. Restrained, elegant, blackberries with caramel, interesting, medium body with nice integrated tannins. And nice with Beth's meatloaf with all that stuff in it. So this weekend, the rest of the piece of crap, maybe. And maybe I'll open something good, like the 2000 Cupa Numismae.

tonight I started with a J. Christopher Pinot, but switched to Pinon Vouvray. If I eat alone tomorrow I might just finish those two, but might start rounding up friends for an excuse to open something better (Betsy left for weekend concerts)

I've purchased so many new wines the past two weeks that I want to try that I hardly know where to begin! I'm quite anxious to try one of several different bottles of viognier so I will open one of those, probably the 2005 Copain L'Ete. Hope to "see" everyone on Sunday!

Got a bunch of older ('99 - '02) Zind-Humbrecht at closeout prices today. I'll probably open something just for fun ...

I have a bottle of the exact riesling you mention ("2004 Saint M") that I've yet to uncork. If you could post your tasting notes for that one along with your food match (if you're having food with it) that would be awesome. Thanx, Aaron.

So, Dale, now we know what everyone else is drinking!! I always love your notes and little stories. The Vouvray sounds like it has found a true wine-lover! Iam a Huet fan, but have found recent Champalou`s to be patchy, especially the Brut. Will keep my eyes open for the Pinon!

Opened a Huguet Can Feixes 2004 Blanc Selecció tonight, will probably have the remainder over the weekend.

Also had some of the Santa Julia 2004 Tardio Late Harvest Torrontés left over from dessert last night.

For lunch today Ravenswood Teldeschi Zinfandel 2002 (WTN to follow). For dinner later Dutschke Moscato 2006 if corkage at the restaurant we're going to isn't too high. For Sunday, maybe the leftover Ravenswood.

Kendall-Jackson 2003 Vintner's Reserve Syrah with grilled new york steaks. Fabulomundo!

If it's just me, I bought a mixed case from Chambers and I'll take one at random -- although my fingers will probably find that bottle from the Loire, a Cab Franc, I trust ... but more anon.

A splurge tonight, 2001 Elio Grasso Barolo Ginestra to wash down mushroom filled ravioli with a parmesan and chanterelle cream sauce. It took a while to open up but when it did, wow. Tomorrow, don't know yet what is on the menu.

Depends on how soon the power gets restored at my house. Right now I'm at my son's (the one who was married last weekend) as he has power AND heat. The top section of a large tree is down on top of the power lines across the road from my house, so my mother-in-law, who is also without power, moved in here for the time being. When things do get back to normal, it will be a nice red with a hot stick to your ribs type of meal.

Last night we had a nice, light Muscato D' Asti from Farina before heading out for the evening. Tonight I'm thinking about a 2001 St. Francis "Old Vines" Zin with dinner. I've got a couple Chiantis that are calling my name as well.

Good concept, Bob, sort of like Open Mike, only different.

Bad week to ask me this, though. Mary thinks she's getting a cold, and there's no point in opening anything really interesting when either of us isn't in a position to enjoy it. Chances are we'll either pop some local microbrewery beer with pork roast and sauerkraut tonight, or an inoffensive white.

I've got a few I'm looking forward to opening in the tasting queue, though, and I'll pull one of them tomorrow night or even tonight if Mary feels better, the choice depending on whether the <i>plat du jour</i> wants a white or a red:

Any chance of some tasting notes Andrew? Torrontes is getting plenty of attention.

Bob, I have to say that I never know what I am going to open on any given weekend until I walk downstairs and pull something out. I tend to have general ideas of what I might want, but they are apt to change at the last second. Just my hyper-impulsive nature I guess!

Last Night the Sig Other and I had a bottle of Chehalem Pinot Noir 2002. Quite good, lots of berries. I haven't decided on tonight's tipple yet.
