1999 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Vergelesses 1er Cru - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune (10/1/2006)
The cork was not promising (rather wet and moldy on top...must be my cold and humid cellar), but the wine was beautiful. Initially a little closed, time brought out lots of lively red fruit and an appealing earthiness. Three hours after opening the wine is really blossoming with raspberry, floral, mineral and finishing cherry flavors. Very tasty Burgundy. Medium weight with realtively easy tannin.

Bize's one of my favourite Burgundian producer's. Some excellent results from this domaine in 1999. Haven't got this one, unfortunately. Thanks for the note, David.

Nice note, I guess Savignys are typically not the most shutdown wines, but still, gives me a little confidence to try some more 99s

Thanks David--I've got an off-line coming up next week and I was going to open a '98 1er tomorrow night as a possible candidate. I guess I should look at my '99s also.

The wine opened up considerably over time, so I would actually wait on your '99s.
